The Most Underrated Product Metric
Everyone measures growth. Almost nobody measures relief.
Every company measures something.
Monthly active users. Retention. Revenue. Conversion rates. Growth.
Those things matter.
But I think there's another metric that almost nobody talks about.
Relief.
Did your product make someone's day easier? Did it remove frustration? Did it save someone time? Did it replace uncertainty with confidence?
People already have enough complexity in their lives.
Work. Family. Money. Responsibilities.
Software shouldn't add to that burden.
It should remove some of it.
The products I love most leave me feeling relieved.
I booked the appointment. I restored the photo. I sent the invoice. I bought the ticket.
Done.
No confusion. No stress. No second guessing.
The best products create confidence. Confidence creates trust. Trust creates loyalty.
Most companies spend a lot of time asking: "How can we get people to use the product more?"
I think a better question is: "How can we make people feel better after using it?"
People don't remember every feature.
They remember how something made them feel.
Relief is difficult to measure.
But customers know when they feel it. And they remember the products that gave it to them.
